Notes: Collection displayed at the 2005 Oregon Mycological Society Fall Mushroom Show, held at the World Forestry Center, Portland, OR. When an OMS tag is present, it also has an OMS herbarium number on it.

Recognized by sight: Scleroderma macrorhizon has a distinctively thick basal attachment made of thousands of mycelial strands woven together. It is also, I suspect, a rudimentary stem. Typically this elevates the sporocarp above the ground level, allowing more free dispersal of spores.
