but got a reprieve in the eleventh hour. only two CA state parks are getting closed down this year. next year, who knows?

not that anyone is gonna take that rock or care, but still…roadside rock, spray paint, vandals…you get the picture.

in Stridvall Caloplaca gallery a photo of the species Caloplaca saxicola which resembles very much the one considered here (see this one). Taking into account the other photos of this species presented there, it is a highly variable species.

Looks too small for Caloplaca trachyphylla. There are several others, though: C. saxicola, C. ignea, C. brattiae, for example. Even with specimen in hand it’s not easy to distinguish these species.
