that’s how it was determined.
I am lagging on making the results available, but the UCSC MycoTeam did a project on this recently.

We sampled a bunch of Ganoderma from the UCSC Campus and measured their spores. Only two of the fruitbodies we sampled had spores within the range of G. applanatum. Almost everything else was G. brownii.

More to come when I get a free couple of hours.

spore size is the only slam-dunk way to tell it from applanatum, apparently.
