Use of the name Xerula radicata

According to Petersen’s and Hughes’ book "The Xerula/Oudemansiella Complex (Agaricales) “Hymenopellis radicata is a well-understood, widespread European agaric …” The book does not list any vouchered specimens from North America. They do comment that three specimens from Lousiana appear to represent a taxon that is almost inseparable from H. radicata. Only somewhat larger spores would appear to separate those collections from H. radicata. They state that DNA extractions of these collection were not successful.
There are a few exceptions – but IMHO, in general labeling Hymenopellis to the species level should at least be backed up with a good measurement of their spore size and measurements of their cystidia size.
