Observation 94730: Mycetozoa Bary ex Rostaf.
When: 2012-05-15
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Could this be a slime mould? I found several clusters of these tiny yellow blobs (sporangia???) accumulated on grass.

Species Lists

This cluster looks a little different – the “blobs” appear to be slightly flatter.

…I braved the frosty conditions early this morning, hoping to photograph this slime mould in its sporangium stage – but alas, there was no sign of it. Most disappointing. Maybe it couldn’t withstand the freezing conditions…

But thank you for your possible ID :o)

It looks like Physarum cinereum or something close to it. It would be nice if you can return and catch a photo of the mature sporangia.
Here’s a page to compare this stage to:

…many thanks for confirming my hunch that this is indeed a slime mould :o)

The photos I posted earlier are actually of this slime mould’s plasmodial stage. Hopefully in a day or two, it will have attained the sporangium stage (and fingers crossed I can manage a few photos.)
