This was growing in some grass near Doug. fir at ~ 4200 ft. on the Pacific Crest Trail about 6 miles from the California border.
It was 8.5 cm across X 7.2 cm high.
It is rather immature but it doesn’t seem to have a sterile base.The peridium was fairly thick.
the last two photos are of the immature spores and capillitium in Congo red.

I had started to think about changing the name….thought maybe I had been a little too premature.

This is Calvatia lloydii. Although, my ITS data shows that this is in LYCOPERDON. No big surprise though.
