Possibly, but not when we observed it

there were 3 large down logs that this was all over, but none had bark except one at the very end which matched bark of a standing balsam fir a couple feet away

balsam fir, eastern white pine, striped maple, and probably a couple other hardwoods were in the vicinity

Was bark covering this at some point?
