The east Asian to Australian materials had been placed in the No. Hemisphere genus, Chamonixia, prior to the excellent study by Lebel et al. While macroscopically similar, spore morphology (and distribution) help distinction with support on the non-molecule side of things. With phylogenetic methods, DNA loci extracted to date by Lebel et al. show clearly a relationship to epigeous leccinoid taxa and separation from Chamonixia.
