There’s a ring on the stem, although it looks a bit raggedy.

Given the cap coloring and the ring on the stem and the geographic location, I think that this is probably Amanita murrilliana of section Caesareoides. It is widely distributed, but doesn’t show up very often. To bad it was drying in the ground before you got to it. I’ve seen it a couple of times in the Smokies.
