No authority after the taxa higher than species

“Hovno” in Czech means “nothing” vulg.. The authorities behind the units higher than species are not used in botany/mycology. If you put the authority after the genus and higher units, it looks very scientific, but in fact it shows that the user is an absolute amateur.

Also, please, bring the “sp.” back. Without it it looks like that the authors of the observation forgot to enter the species name or posted the observation before they had identified the specimen. The “sp.” would indicate that that the user did try to ID the specimen without any success.

In the 2011 Wrap-up, I noticed that several herbaria were interested in using MO for their herbarium management system. This is in fact how we use it for our Obervatory Hill collections. However, some strange idiosyncrasies of MO (authorities after the units higher than species, the lack of visible annotation stream) would drive the curators crazy. Trust me, I had been a herbarium curator for a large chunk of my professional life. As much as I like MO, I hate some of its features. Adolf
