Cap to 4 cm wide. Yellowish cortina, veil remnants present on lower stipe.

Most Cortinarius don’t have any, but the type species (C. violaceus) has cheilocystidia.

Spores are finely warted, eliptical to egg-shaped and 8-10 × 5-6 um. Did not notice any cystidia.
