The ‘color diagram item’ is called a color chart. I think this one was made by Munsell. They tend to be expensive (>$70). They are used to calibrate the camera and to adjust the white-balance, grey-scale and colors so that the image is true to life. At the time I took the photograph, I didn’t know how to use it. It is not meant to show up in the final photograph. I still don’t know how to use it precisely.
