Appreciate the correction. I think I have actually seen Lycogala in other spots before – I will have to look to see if I can find a picture.

There have been other obs. that turned out to be plants. http://mushroomobserver.org/observer/observation_search?pattern=plantae
In addition there are many pics of parastic plants like indian pipes and squaw root.

is soft and gooey inside. It does not grow overlapped like this and does not have the pale colors.
