Observation 98684: Calvatia rubroflava (Cragin) Lloyd

When: 2012-06-24

Collection location: Big Thicket, Tyler Co., Texas, USA [Click for map]

Who: Ron Pastorino (Ronpast)

Specimen available

These were found in the northern section of the Turkey Creek Unit.
Very interesting puffball and noticed that Richard Kneal just posted a find in Florida.
As they age they exude a yellow-orange juice that stains everything. The one in the upper left of the first photo was quite ripe.
The spores and gleba turn a rusty brown.
The spores were in the range of 4.0-4.5 microns and slightly spiny.
