Observation 9887: Polyporales sensu lato

When: 2001-07-04

Collection location: Larch Mountain, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Noble fir stump, about 6 feet diameter. Notice cut in lower-right of photo where loggers made a platform cut. Looks like tree was cross-cut at about 8-10 feet height. Fungus is about 5 feet off the ground in center, just above branch. Younger Noble fir in background. This photo was taken in an area where Bridgeoporus nobilissima has been identified, but identification of this fungus is impossible from this distance. I’d say it was more likely a large Ganoderma applanatum.
