Wish you could call it Laccaria altaica sensu Roger Phillips

that would make it clear where the name came from, and that at least, morphologically, it matches Roger Phillips’ concept of L. altaica!
thanks for giving the reference!

I got the species name from the field guide

“Mushrooms of North America” by Roger Phillips. My collection… one of three similar collections made from the same area on July 1… match Phillips’ description well. Of course, this does not mean this species name applies. But, whatever this type is currently called (if there is a current NA species name) I think it’s the same thing that Phillips documented.

Phillips lists L. striatula as a synonym.

Laccaria – sure

species name – ahum, not sure at all. Laccaria altaica was described from the Altai Mountains, in Russia. it is not very likely that that species occurs in eastern North America.
Laccaria is right now quite a mess, i have to admit.
