Observation 9899: Morchella Dill. ex Pers.
When: 2004-04-25
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These are the burn-site morel, Morchella elata. In the Cascades Mountains, these are the first fungi to appear after devastating forest fires, road building, thinning operations, or other natural disaster. They were the first life form to be seen after Mount St. Helens erupted in May, 1980. Oh, and they’re not bad to eat, either.
