Observation 99649: Diploicia canescens (Dickson) A. Massal.

When: 2012-07-07

Collection location: Peniche, Portugal [Click for map]

Who: zaca

No specimen available

The existence of pustules on the convex lobes close to the margin of thallus made me doubt (again!) that the it was Diploicia canescens. But then I remembered the discussion related with observation 68511 and saw no alternative. In addition, recently I saw a photo in Stridvall where such pustules are well documented (see this photo).
(see also observation 99645, where D. canescens stand side by side with Physcia caesia).

You’re right, this is odd

I’m more concerned about that quality of the “soredia” in the center, though. This is far more coarse than any other photos (or specimens) I’ve seen. But like you, I see no other alternative.
