I didn’t collect it. It was photographed inside of a building because it was displayed at the Humboldt Bay Mycological Society (HBMS) mushroom fair.
I don’t know if this has been reported from California before.
Did you notice that many sporocarps appear to be fruiting in a near line? When I find this near Cape Lookout, I strongly suspected it was fruiting from an old-growth tree, very degraded and mostly buried.
Looks like there is Coastal Redwood and maybe some cypress in the photo. Were these trees nearby?
