Observation 22543: Boletus subcaerulescens ( E.A. Dick & Snell) Both, Bessette & A.R. Bessette

When: 2009-06-24

Collection location: Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave in NE PA

No specimen available

My reason for suspecting “subcaerulescens” is that I had found a nice fruitng of them June 2008 in the exact (or nearly so) same spot (along a park road in oak woods). Those blued slightly where flesh and pore meet (in the flesh). This single button resembles last year’s find, especially in the fine but deep reticulations. So, I’m guessing that the faint bluing reaction doesn’t set in until the pores have matured. But that’s a longshot.

I’m betting I’ll find a few more of them. Taste pleasant, like an edulis.
