Observation 23360: Russula Pers.

When: 2009-07-20

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Notes:
Bright pink Russulas under jack pine and quaking aspen in two places in Zone 15. The first and larger group grew right in the middle of a trail; the second was in moss. Gills yellowish; no short gills (unlike the yellowish-gilled pink Russula seen in late autumn in the same area). Cap color seems to wash or flake off like old paint on older specimens.
