> A clean, contiguous nrLSU sequence of 966 bps was obtained from this material and posted in the comment below. There is a single ambiguous character (a ‘Y’) in the middle of the sequence.
> This sequence was practically identical (1 base off due to the ‘Y’ in 248580) to the corresponding fragment of Geoff Balme’s obs 247957 and obs 255442 from NC. Morphologically, the three collections look very close and likely to represent the same taxon.
> Dario posted many other MO obsies of what both he and I think is this entity, e.g.: obs 244826, obs 246314, obs 246317, obs 248160, obs 248161, obs 248322, obs 248356, obs 248357, obs 248574, obs 248578, and obs 255387. I have all of these collections in my possession. There are probably others from the previous years, but this selection is sufficient to demonstrate that this species can be locally common and abundant in some locations of the northern tier of coastal southeastern USA. The distribution range is unknown, but it’s probably limited to southeastern NA. We don’t find this bolete in NJ.
> For a relevant discussion of GenBank BLASTn results for this taxon, see obs 255442.

Charlottesville is surely a bolete paradise. :-)

Charlottesville is paradise for mushrooms.

It captured this mushroom so perfectly that I can almost “feel” the texture of the cap!

It appears that only you have been finding and posting this bolete on MO. Must be something special about your area. :-)
How big is your bolete treasure trove? :-)

I’m not sure but I have a lot of saved materials. We will see tomorrow.

Was this and/or obs 248578 saved?
The posted nrLSU sequence is identical to accession #MF797695 (=Boletus sp. strain MGW1536 from Great Smokey Mountain National Park in TN) submitted to GB on 30-Aug-17 by Matheny, Trudell & Wood.
