Observation 250255: Agaricus sect. Agaricus

About 20 miles north of Santa Fe.

Under Pinus edulis (pinon pine). Yellowing in KOH. Odor pleasant.

Recognized by sight: very little known about this rarely seen species. Pileus remains rounded, even in age.Thcik context in pileus (not really seen here). FB large thick and robust, with bulbous base.
Used references: “Agaricus of North America”
Based on chemical features: pleasant but not almondy odor.
KOH not mentioned in original description, but Shaffer rxn, sometimes produced yellow spots.

so not a lot of descriptions, but the habitat is intriguing, as well as the odor (pleasant but not almondy, section Agaricus).

Hopefully, we will find more potential examples of pinionensis in AZ next month!

What was the elevation here? Barrows found it at 2100-2600 meters.

I’ll bet that Kerrigan would be interested in this one.
