Observation 269422: Helvella vespertina N.H. Nguyen & Vellinga

When: 2017-01-25

Collection location: Marysville, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Phalluscybe (phonehenge)

No specimen available

These Helvella were growing under Spruce. That seemed unusual to me, not that they were there but that they may be another species. These are very tight growing, folding in on them selves and creating seams like Verpa bohemica.
What do you think?

You really didn’t save one?

I suspect that Helvella vespertina can grow with a variety of conifers. This has been a tremendous year for them here in the Bay Area as well. Carpets.

But it would take an actual specimen and micro analysis to know for sure.

Write Else … she would surely have an opinion, but again, she would want to see an actual specimen.

Great shots of a very unusual fruiting!
