Under mature western red cedar and vine maple. Viscid cap – but not stipe. No visible remnants of a vale. Less tan 20 miles from Olympia.

Top of cap is more like the brown here but failed to get a picture.

Shannon has suggested that C. olympianus is a wrong ID and that it might be C. occidentalis. After reviewing her thoughts and looking again, I agree with her. Thanks Shannon!

I am not surprised at all that my choice looks to have missed the mark. I have to admit that one reason I picked C. olympianus is that it was so close to Olympia. Sometimes they name a mushroom from the area it was seen. Can you say why you were so positive it wasn’t olymianus? Thanks!

I’m not sure what it is. I thought of C.occidentalis because it has some purple staining on the stipe, anyway. One of the other corts :)
