It is now very clear that A. rooseveltensis rarely yields even a complete ITS2 segment…the last of the three segments that make up nrITS. So there is nothing odd or “broken” about your sequence.

We’re using it as a sort of mark for a cluster of genetically similar taxa from around the world with ellipsoid spores.

Regarding the ITS. Glad you were able to at least obtain a usable LSU and narrowed it down to A. rooseveltensis which would be my first confirmed find of this species! Thanks! Out of curiosity is rooseveltensis still being treated as a possible species complex?

We have very typical Amanita rooseveltensis from the voucher material…

The small cup-like volva…

reminds me of a tiny caesar like A. virginiana. And, except for the lack of an annulus, this petite mushroom resembles some of the virginiana pictured on the Amanita website. But, the finely textured stipe surface shows no sign of disturbance from a fleeting partial veil.

The voucher material for this observation has been accessioned in our herbarium.
