Found on fallen hardwoods near a newly embarked construction site. The white leading edge of spore bearing structure is aggressively and rapidly growing(quick enough to completely engulf a small sword fern tip without discoloring or changing its structure#3rd image). From Spring through late August these spore bearing structures will continue to spread out and drop millions of chocolate spores to the forest floor below.
Tea made from these fresh fruiting bodies is very bitter sweet and intense flavored. Excellent amount of triterpenes, triterpenoids, ergasterol, polysacharides and Beta D glucans. For such a common and accessible fungus it is pretty amazing and useful for building immune strength, stamina, curing cancer and building T cells against HIV aids.
Simply try harvesting a small fruitbody and slice it lengthwise into strips and then either dry the strips with a dehydrator(for storage) or place them directly into a boiling pot for 30min. to an hour and then drink with honey and ginger.

I am totally in love with Ganoderma spp. this year- maybe cuz most everything else has been so hit and miss since winter frost… Either way, they’re fascinating for sure!

Plants will often grow through fungi unchanged. It has always fascinated me that something can be so strangulated yet still flourish.
