Scruffy exterior that has not yet worn smooth.
Sandy base acts as a counter weight and when the puffball breaks lose from the soil, this counter weight causes it to flip over.
Bottom of the sandy base.
Upside down and unflipped. Ready to dig up.
Flipped over and the pore has already formed when it was upside down!
The unflipped fruit body above cut in half.
Short pedicel on verrucose spores
Unbranched capillitium with thin hyaline walls sometimes appearing light brown.
