he said that if he had found it in Europe, he’d have called it umbrinolutea (now perhaps battarea?).

regardless of where it ends up taxonomically speaking, it is an interesting and unusual western grisette.

these are pretty delicate fruit bodies…

I doubt very much that they will turn out to be pachycholea. lots of grisettes out here show reddening on the veil. the tallest of these grisettes was only 10 cm. in height.
