“H. lacunosa s.s. is not in North America” Too Strong?

While this sample is from California and I’d agree with H. lacunosa group or even H. dryophila (assuming Oak or Madrona), I think “NOT in North America” is too strong a statement.

The paper actually says “based on limited sampling outside California” and it only defines a “western North American Clade”.

Note the sample from Minnesota of H. Lacunosa shown in the chart on page 1279
(above all the dryophila/vespertina, KC122796). It is closer to the western NA species, but not really by much. In the 2nd chart, you can see a sample of H. “Lacunosa” from Canada, another from MN (KC122821) with the same difference as a sample from Austria and another from the Netherlands.

Not in Western NA would be a safer statement, but even that is only based on this one study.
