1. Loose, globose cells with long excrescences or spines located on the pileipellis, stipe surface, and/or the universal veil of some bioluminescent species (Amparoina spinosissima, Mycena asterina).
2. Thick-walled, spinose and spinulose cells, each of which can disarticulate and act as an asexual propagule, individually germinating to form dikaryotic hyphae. (Compare cherocytes to chlamydospores).
