Glossary Term: Gill Arrangement

(Gill Spacing and Gill Lengths)

1. The appearance and order of the gills (i.e. crowded, close, distant, etc.). This includes the possibility of different gill lengths (i.e. lamellae, lamellulae). Gill lengths can be treated in four categories known as primary (the largest gills), secondary, tertiary, and quaternary.
