1. Some spores have additional features extending from or situated along the cell wall area that can be useful for identification and description. These features are referred to as ornamentation. For example, a species could be described as having an ornamentation consisting of warts or wrinkles. Ornamentation can be difficult to see with the light microscope compared to a Scanning Electron Microscope.
