Glossary Term: Pseudocystidium

(Plural = Pseudocystidia) (Synonymous with Macrocystidia)

1. Differentiated prolongation of vascular hypha into the hymenium.
2. Gloeocystidia which are tramal in origin and project into and usually beyond the hymenium or the surface of the pileus or stipe. Pseudocystidia are usually metachromatic in Cresyl Blue. They also stain in the acid-aldehydes; black in sulfobenzaldehyde or red in chlorovanillin and brown in sulfoformol.
3. Extensions of conducting system, (eg. gloeocystidia, chrysocystidia, phaeocystidia, and macrocystidia).
