General Description:

Located near village of Baileys Harbor on shores of Lake Michigan in Door County, WI

Habitat Description:

Contains highly prized wet shore forests consisting of species of fur, white cedar, pines and hardwoods. The forest composition is more typical of the types that start in far north Wisconsin and go into CANADA, but are able to survive this far south because of the cooling and wet effect of the lake. This is just one of the smaller parcels of land preserved in this area, along with Ridges Sanctuary and Toft Point.

Interesting Species:

Lots of lichens more typical of the far north. Also, the species that exist elsewhere in Wisconsin can reach huge sizes in this environment, for example Ramalina americana can reach the size of human palm.

Notes:

One can park for free in designated areas or along the road, and walk into the site.
