From E.E. Both’s North American Bolete Compendium:
“Pileus ‘bright golden-yellow, minutely granular-squamulose, flesh whitish, tubes subrotund or angular, pale yellow, stem glabrous, thickened toward base, colored like the pileus’, spores 12.5-15 microns. ‘The squamules of the pileus appear stellate under a lens’. [Peck, unpublished notebook 13: 69 (1884)]”
