Gastrocybe lateritia is brown-capped and white-stemmed and related to Conocybe. According to Index Fungorum Conocybe deliquescens Hauskn. & Krisai is the current name for this taxon.

This name has been misapplied to a similar species that occurs in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California near Yuba Pass. This species is referred to as Gastrocybe “yellow” in Mycol. Res. 107 (8): 969-979 (August 2003). See that name for more details.
