Amanita flavorubens is a name based on North American material from Ohio. The epithet was originally combined in Agaricus. I have reviewed this material in the cryptogamic herbarium in Paris. The name was recombined in Amanita in 1887. I am convinced from my type study that Amanita flavorubens is a taxonomic synonym of A. flavorubescens published in 1902.
