Morphology
Stroma:
Stromata solitary, usually simple occasionally bifurcating, capitate, growing from the fruiting body of Elaphomyces species. Stipe 13-14 mm wide, 130 mm in length, grayish yellow to deep yellow, glabrous, and hollow. Fertile region broadly rounded, 13 mm in diameter, olive brown to dark brown, abruptly enlarged where attached to the stipe.

Perithecia:
Perithecia immersed, ellipsoid, hyaline, 500-300 um in length.

Asci:
Asci cylindrical to narrowly ellipsoid, up to 440 × 10-15 um, with a prominent apical cap.

Ascospores:
Ascospores filiform, smooth, hyaline, separating into partspores. Partspores long, 40-65 × 4-5 um, truncated.

Ecology
Host or Substrate:
On truffles of the genus Elaphomyces [Ascomycota]

Notes
Commentary:
Elaphocordyceps capitata and E. longisegmentis can be differentiated mainly by the length of their partspores: E. longisegmentis has longer partspores.
