Ostracoderma has cup-shaped fruiting bodies that are usually a little less than one centimeter in diameter. They are pale brown to umber, and are usually semi-translucent. They have ellipsoid hyaline spores between 6 and 8 micrometers in size. Ostracoderma has an apothecial state and a conidial state; its conidial state was previously thought to be another species, Chromelosporium ollare.
