Brief Description: [See More | Edit]

Originally defined by: gills that are thick, distant, and waxy gills; spores mostly smooth, hyaline and inamyloid; and basidia >= 5x the length of their spores. But phylogentic analysis shows this is not completely reliable, with many genera formerly in Hygrophoraceae now transferred to Tricholomataceae. Mostly biotrpophic, but only Hygrophorus is ectomychorrhizal.1
