A. augustus: West.
A. cuniculicola: High elev. Rockies. Tall & thin. Cap starts ~conical. Medium to dark brown, on whitish to yellowish.
A. julius: High elev. Rockies. Larger spores.
A. nanaugustus: ~Northeast US. Smaller, thinner. Smaller scales. Smaller spores.
A. perobscurus: CA. Thinner annulus. Smoother lower stipe. Smaller spores.
A. smithii: CA & OR (& WA) coast. Tall & thin. Cap starts ~conical. “Tawny-orangish” on pale to yellow-orange.
A. subrufescens: Everywhere. Redder, less yellow cap. Less impressive cap scales. Smoother lower stipe.
