Else Vellinga mentioned this name change to me in 2007. -Nathan

This name came into vogue when someone heard that very preliminary results from molecular work by Brian Perry and Dennis Desjardin showed this species was outside of the Mycena s.s. clade. If that was the case, Prunulus purus would be a good name for this taxa. But with more research and more complete molecular data, it is now apparent that this taxa does belong in Mycena. Another case of jumping onto the name change wagon without proper evidence. In summary…the best name for this taxa, based on current knowledge, is Mycena pura. -M. Wood
