Brief Description:

Thallus pale gray to slightly greenish gray, with large, raised white hoods on the more central up-right clusters of lobes. The surrounding lobes have white blotches, whitish tips and scalloped margins and are also somewhat raised. Usually lobe tips have long, white, unbranched hairs (cilia), with dark tips. The underside of lobe is white. Apothecia are rarely present, but have brown disks, surrounded by a thick border the same color as the thallus.

Size: Lichen up to a few centimeters in diameter. Lobes mostly under 1.5 mm wide. Hoods up to 2 mm across. Disks can be 1.5 to 3.5 mm across.
