Marasmius purpureostriatus is distinguished by a relatively large, plicate and striped pileus with greyish violet disc and plicae and greyish yellow ridges, subdistant, broad lamellae, a purplish grey to reddish brown stipe, large clavate basidiospores with mean range of 21.3-28.2 × 4.6-6.2 μm, and an absence of pleurocystidia and caulocystidia.
