about the proper familial placement of Tricholomopsis. Some papers put forward Hygrophoraceae, others Typhulaceae, and none but one of them includes any tropical collections beyond two African vouchers of T. aurea (Holec, J., Kunca, V. & Kolařík, M. Tricholomopsis badinensis sp. nov. and T. sulphureoides—two rare fungi of European old-growth forests. Mycol Progress 18, 321–334 (2019) doi:10.1007/s11557-018-1449-7). The artists currently known as “Collybia” plectophylla and “Marasmius” rhyssophyllus may rightly belong in Tricholomopsis. In any event, the genus is certainly more tropically diverse than currently realized, and the very tropical taxa ignored in studies undertaken thus far might help answer what family the genus ought to end up in.
