General Description:

Pileus: convex to campanulate, whitish to gray, smooth, silky fibrillose, 1-2 cm broad.
Flesh: thin, pale brown, odor unpleasant.
Gills: adnate or notched with a decurrent tooth, whitish, thick, distant.
Spore print: white
Stipe: 1-5 cm., equal, whitish to brownish gray, fibrillose to tomentose

Diagnostic Description:

No powdery spores on the cap surface will separate it from Asterophora lycoperdoides.


Occurs wherever its hosts are found.


On species of Lactarius and Russula.

Look Alikes:

Asteropora lycoperdoides has a similar habitat and appearance.
