Look Alikes:

In the US and Canada, the name A. caesarea has been applied to A. jacksonii and similar species that I called “slender caesars.” It has also been applied to the orangish species (especially in New Mexico and Arizona) of the A. calyptroderma group. The closest phenetic relative of A. caesarea in the U.S. and Canada (of which I know) is A. spreta.

Mexico boasts a group of species that have been called A. caesarea in the past. Amanita jacksonii is present in Mexico; and other “slender caesars” are probably also present there. A species very similar to A. caesarea that is present in Mexico is A. basii. The names A. yema and A. laurae are among others that are applied to close relatives of A. caesarea in Mexico.
