Large, stocky mushroom with overall clitocyboid/Tricholoma/Hygrophorus shape, with pale-yellow pileus.1 4 5
This species was described (as Clitocybe gruberi) in 1944 by Smith5, redescribed by Bigelow & Smith1, and redescribed by Ovrebo, Lodge & Aime4.

Pale-yellow pileus, large oblong to subcylindric spores, and presence of cheilocystidia.1 4
