Observation 10077: Tuber indicum Cooke & Massee

When: 2001-11-12

Seen at: Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Purchased by a local mushroom wholesaler who identified this as Tuber indicum from China. Multiple diamond-shaped pyramidal warts on peridium, sometimes with a brownish columella-like structure (see left side of photo). Venae internae white to yellowish-brown; gleba mostly purple-black. Odor of old milk and sweet mushroom: an unusual combination in my experience.
